Accessing Your Server Using Putty
You can use the Putty SSH client to access your Linux dedicated or Virtual Private Server (VPS).
To Access Your Server Via the Putty SSH Client:
- Open Putty and select SSH. The default port is changed to 22.
- In the Hostname or IP Address field, enter your IP Address.
- Click Open. The command line window displays.
- At the login as: prompt, enter your user name.
- At the password: prompt, enter your password.
- At the command line, type su - and enter your password again to get root access.
NOTE: The first time you log in to the server, the Putty Security Alert displays. Click Yes to approve the connection.
NOTE: Root access allows you to act as the administrator.
