Limitations of the Database Publishing Service in the Shared Hosting Environment
Using your login credentials, you can perform all database actions through the Database Publishing Wizard (DPW). As such, you cannot perform any activity that is prohibited under normal usage, such as creating or modifying full text catalogs, assemblies, or database level triggers.
If you attempt to publish a database with any of these items, it will fail. To resolve this situation, on the Select Database page in the DPW, deselect Script all objects in the selected database, and then deselect any assemblies, full text catalogs, or database level triggers.
If you are attempting to publish a database with objects that depend on custom assemblies, you have two options:
- Deselect all objects that depend on the assembly, and then publish with no additional steps.
- Manually upload all required assemblies using the SQL Web Admin, and then publish. On the Select Publishing Options screen, set Drop Existing Objects in Script to False. During publish, the wizard sees that the required assemblies exist and skips the upload step. This setting allows publishing of any objects dependent on the assemblies that you uploaded to succeed.
NOTE: Not all assemblies are supported. If you receive an error, it is likely that the assembly you are uploading is not supported.
Publishing is also subject to normal limitations on storage space. Once you have expended your database space allocation, any subsequent publish action will fail. There is no way to estimate the total amount of space required by a publishing session. Therefore, you my not discover any errors due to space limitation until after publishing begins. If you require the database to publish either completely or not at all, you may select Publish using transaction on the Select Publishing Options page to cause any actions performed to rollback should an error occur.
