Upgrading to Outlook 2007 with Hosted Exchange Email
When you purchase a Hosted Exchange Email account, it comes with a free Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, and Entourage® 2008. If you were using an earlier version of Outlook, or Outlook Express or Windows Live Mail, you may have emails and settings you want to migrate to the new version of Outlook.
First, download and install Outlook 2007, and then follow the instructions below, based on the program you currently use.
To Download Outlook 2007
- Log in to your Account Manager.
- Click Email.
- Click Microsoft Email Plans.
- Click Launch next to your Hosted Exchange Email account.
- Click Download Outlook, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Upgrading from Outlook 2002 or 2003
Outlook 2007 keeps your email and other settings when you upgrade from Outlook 2002 or 2003, however, you need to create a new profile for your Hosted Exchange Email account. That means that, while all the information is transferred over, it's in another profile that's inaccessible to the profile that your Hosted Exchange Email account is in.
Outlook stores contacts, emails, and other information in a file called a .pst file. You can follow the instructions on Microsoft's site to import the .pst file into the profile that contains your Hosted Exchange Email account. Then you can drag and drop the emails you want to keep into your Hosted Exchange Email inbox.
TIP: If you were using Microsoft Exchange in an earlier version of Outlook, export your Exchange data first, and then import the data into your Hosted Exchange Email account.
Upgrading from Outlook Express or Microsoft Windows Mail
When you install Outlook 2007, it won't find your Outlook Express or Microsoft Mail settings automatically.
If you want to migrate that information into Outlook 2007, see How to upgrade from Outlook Express to Outlook on Microsoft's site.
Once the information is migrated in, you can drag and drop the emails you want to keep into your Hosted Exchange Email inbox.
