Generating a CSR and Installing an SSL Certificate on SonicWALL UTM Devices
When you request an SSL certificate, you must provide a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) from your SonicWALL® UTM device. The CSR includes your public key, and must contain the same details from your request form. After your request is vetted and your certificate is issued, download and install all of the provided files to complete the installation.
Generating a CSR in a SonicWALL UTM Device
Follow these steps to generate a CSR on your device. After you generate the CSR, copy and paste it into the CSR field on the SSL certificate request page.
Before you begin, download and install the intermediate certificate bundle from the repository.
To Generate a CSR in a SonicWALL UTM Device
- Log in to your device as Administrator.
- From the System menu, select Certificates.
- Click Imported Certificates.
- Click New Signing request.
- Enter the requested information:
- Certificate Alias — Name to identify the certificate
- Country — The two-letter International Organization for Standardization (ISO) format country code for where your organization is legally registered
- State — Name of the state or province where your organization is located — do not abbreviate.
- Locality — Name of the city where your organization is registered/located — do not abbreviate.
- Company or Organization — The full legal name of your organization. The listed organization must be the legal registrant of the domain name in the certificate request. If you are enrolling as an individual, please enter the certificate requestor's name in the Organization field, and the DBA (doing business as) name in the Organizational field.
- Department — Optional
- Group — Optional
- Team — Optional
- Common Name — The fully-qualified domain name, or URL, you're securing. If you are requesting a Wildcard certificate, add an asterisk (*) to the left of the common name where you want the wildcard, for example *.coolexample.com.
- Subject Alternative Name (Optional) — Optional. If you're requesting a UCC SSL, specify any additional domains you want this certificate to secure.
- Subject Key Size — Must be at least 2048 bit
- Click Generate. The status of the CSR shows Pending Request.
- Select the CSR and click Download.
- Open the file in a text editor and copy all of the text.
- Paste the full CSR into the request form in your account.
Importing a CSR in a SonicWALL UTM Device
You can import the CSR from another server to use on your SonicWALL device. Before you begin, download and install the intermediate certificate bundle from the repository.
To Import a CSR in a SonicWALL UTM Device
- Log in to your device as Administrator.
- From the System menu, select Certificates.
- Click Imported Certificates.
- Click Import.. and select the certificate files to import.
- Enter a Name to identify the certificate.
- Enter a Password for the certificate.
- Specify the location to import the certificate.
- Click Import.
Installing an SSL in a SonicWALL UTM Device
After your SSL certificate is issued, download and install it on your SonicWALL UTM device. Also, if you have not yet downloaded and installed the intermediate certificates, you must do that now. When you download the certificate files, select Apache as the server type.
To Install your SSL in a SonicWALL UTM Device
- Log in to your device as Administrator.
- From the System menu, select Certificates.
- Click Imported Certificates.
- Click Import.. and select the certificate files to import.
